Read This If You’re About To Give a Speech
First of all, I would like to start by saying that.
Giving good qualitty speeches is extremally dificullt, end of discussion.
Fortunately, we have already had one of the best speakers in history from whom we can take examples.
These peoples are such as:
All of these speakers were politicians and it’s not a coincidence.
I think that every single politician need to know how to connect with his publicity, but that’s a topic for another time.
Every single one of them had particular skill maxed out.
For example Martin Luther King had the best refferences to Bible, Ronald Reagan was genius in oratory and knew exactly when use “We” or “I” and Winston Churchill was clever at using repetitions.
These aspect has to be studied and trained over and over.
Fortunatelly enough with their brilliant speeches they gave us points and schemes which are easy to follow.
1. Know your audience
Before you start writing your speech, take some time to understand who your audience is.
What are their interests, values and beliefs.
Adjusting your speech to the needs of your audience is crucial in order to effectively persuade your publicity.
2. Start strong
Your opening statement is critical to get audience’s attention.
The way you can do this is simply by:
Powerful statement
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
— Barack Obama
Provocative question
“Is it truly ‘making America great again’ if we build walls to keep people out, rather than bridges to bring us together?”
— Donald Trump
Interesting fact
“Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”
— Ronald Reagan
It helps to get audience’s attention but remember your speech has to be interesting for the whole time not only the first 3 sentences.
3. Storytelling (anecdotes)
The point of stories and anecdotes is making your message more memorable to your people.
Example from Martin Luther King Jr. and his famous “I have a dream”
In short he told the story of young girl who was trying to integrate a school in Alabama. He described how she had to walk past a group of angry protesters every day, and how she was often taunted and threatened.
He used this story to show the courage and determination of the civil rights movement.
4. Keep it concise
Keep your speech short and to the point.
Focus on delivering your message in a clear and consise maner.
These 4 points are just a beginning of what you have to do to keep the good quality of speech.
There will be more of how you can improve your speech, but these 4 points are crucial for writing only.
I hope thanks to this article i highly interested you in oratory and an art of rhetorics in speeches.
Thank you, and have a good day ❤
